Verizon and AT&T cover Grand Canyon Village on the South Rim, but the signal is gone about half a mile down the trail. Where the emergency phones are, and the 2026 North Rim closures.
On the South Rim, yes. Below the rim, almost none. Grand Canyon Village has coverage from Verizon and AT&T, but the signal is gone within about half a mile down the Bright Angel Trail. The National Park Service puts it plainly: inside the canyon it is "nearly impossible to get and keep a signal".

Where you will have signal
- Grand Canyon Village, South Rim: Verizon is the strongest, with a tower in the village; AT&T is decent, with another tower at Desert View.
- Lodges: free Wi-Fi, slow, from 1 to 5 Mbps.
- Down the trails: none to speak of. Plan every hike below the rim as offline.
The emergency phones below the rim
The park lists emergency phones at the Havasupai Gardens and Phantom Ranch ranger stations, at the Bright Angel Trail rest houses, and at the junction of the South Kaibab and Tonto trails. Note them on your map before you start down.
North Rim in 2026
The Grand Canyon Lodge on the North Rim was destroyed by the Dragon Bravo fire in 2025, and after a flash flood on 29 August 2026 the North Kaibab Trail and Phantom Ranch are closed. Check the park's North Rim status page before planning anything on that side.
Before you hike
- Download offline maps and the trail description while you are on the rim.
- Tell someone your route and your expected return time.
- Carry a satellite messenger or a phone with satellite SOS for long hikes. Many recent iPhones have it built in, in the United States.
- Do not count on photos uploading until you are back at the rim.
