eSIM for Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik is a walled old town on the Adriatic, so crowded in summer that your phone matters for tickets and timing. Croatia is in the EU, and the border to Bosnia and Montenegro is a short drive away.

Dubrovnik: what to know before you go

From the airport
Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) is about 20 km from the old town. Buses and taxis run, and a map helps you find the right stop.
City walls
The walls are the main sight and tickets are sold at the gates and online. In summer cruise ships fill the town, so timing matters.
Day trips across borders
Kotor in Montenegro and Mostar in Bosnia are popular day trips. Neither is in the EU roaming area, so a European SIM may cost much more there. This is where an eSIM with the right country coverage helps.
The Bosnian corridor
Along the coast road north you briefly cross Bosnia at Neum. Roaming charges can apply during the crossing, so turn off data roaming on a normal SIM.

How much data you need

Three days of maps, tickets and photos takes about 2 GB. Add more if you take day trips.

Written . Opening rules, fees, prices at attractions and event dates change, so check the official site before you rely on them.

Dubrovnik: when people go

2 and 3 February 2027: Feast of Saint Blaise
The patron saint festival opens on 2 February with the release of white doves and the raising of the banner, and the main procession on 3 February passes through the old town and along the Stradun. Visitors from across Croatia fill the centre, so allow extra time and save an offline map.
Expected 10 July to 25 August 2027: Summer Festival
The festival traditionally opens on 10 July and closes on 25 August, as the 2026 edition did, with about 70 performances in the old town that year. Book seats ahead and keep the tickets saved offline.
November 2026 to March 2027: off season
Many restaurants in the old town close for the winter, and ferries and tours to the Elaphite islands run less often and depend on the weather. Check opening hours and sailings on your phone before you plan a day around them.

Questions about Dubrovnik

Does EU roaming work on a day trip to Montenegro or Bosnia?
No. Neither country is in the EU roaming area. Switch off data roaming on your normal SIM, and use a plan that covers the country you visit.
How much does an eSIM for Dubrovnik cost?
Dubrovnik uses the Croatia plans, because an eSIM belongs to a country and not to a city. Plans start at $2.49 for 1 GB, valid for 7 days. There are 10 plans, from 1 GB to 50 GB, plus unlimited day passes.
Do I need a local SIM card in Dubrovnik?
No. The eSIM is a SIM card in digital form: you install it from a QR code before you leave, and there is nothing to buy at the airport or swap in your phone.
How is it different from roaming in Dubrovnik?
If your SIM is from the EU, roaming here costs the same as at home, within the data your plan allows abroad. The eSIM helps when that allowance runs out, or when your line is from outside the EU: then your carrier usually charges by the day or by the megabyte.
Which networks does the Dubrovnik eSIM use?
Wigoo connects to Tele2 and A1, with 5G where it is available. Each plan lists the operators it uses.
Can I add more data?
Yes. You top up the same eSIM from the app, without installing a new one.
Do I keep my phone number?
Yes. Plans are data only, so your usual line stays active for calls and texts, and WhatsApp keeps working as always.
When do the validity days start?
Not when you buy and not when you install: the days start counting when the eSIM connects to a network at your destination for the first time. A 30 day plan gives you 30 days from that first connection.
How long do I have to install the eSIM?
An eSIM that is never installed expires. The "Install by" date is shown on your order, on the site and in the app, so you can buy ahead of your trip. Install it before that date, on Wi-Fi.
Can I use the eSIM as a hotspot?
Data used through a personal hotspot comes out of the same plan, and Wigoo does not charge it separately. A laptop uses far more data than a phone, so for work a day pass or a bigger plan is safer.
What happens when the data runs out?
Plans are prepaid, so there are no extra charges: when the data is used up, the connection stops until you add more from the app. Day passes give a daily allowance at full speed, then continue at reduced speed (500 Kbps) until the next day.
When should I install the eSIM?
Before you leave, on Wi-Fi. When you land, set the Wigoo line for mobile data and turn on data roaming for it.
