Is there phone signal in Hurghada, Sharm, on a Nile cruise and in the desert?
Good 4G in the Red Sea resorts and in Luxor and Aswan, on and off on Nile cruises, and none in the White Desert away from the roads. Plus what we know about WhatsApp calls in Egypt.
In the resorts and the cities, yes. On a Nile cruise, on and off. In the White Desert, no. Hurghada, Marsa Alam, Sharm el-Sheikh and Naama Bay have good 4G in the resort areas, and Luxor and Aswan are solid in town. On a cruise the signal is strong near towns and locks and drops in between. In the White Desert there is effectively none away from the main roads.

WhatsApp calls in Egypt
WhatsApp messages and voice notes work. Calls have been restricted on local networks on and off for years, and a 2026 report describes them as throttled at times. We have not verified how they behave on our eSIM, so keep a backup such as a regular call on your home line.
