Is there phone signal in Petra, Wadi Rum and the rest of Jordan?
Network measurements show Zain dense in Amman, Aqaba and the Dead Sea hotels, 4G at the Petra entrance and no measurements in the Siq or at the Monastery. Wadi Rum has only a handful. Place by place.
In Amman, Aqaba, the Dead Sea hotels and the town outside Petra, yes. Inside Petra's canyons and out in Wadi Rum, the measurements run out. Crowd-sourced measurements on nPerf's map show Zain with 4G and 4G+ at the Petra entrance and in Wadi Musa, but none along the Siq, at the Treasury or up at the Monastery, and only a few scattered points across Wadi Rum.

These are crowd-sourced measurements updated on 21 September 2026, not an official coverage map. An area without measurements is not proof of no signal: it can simply mean few people ran a test there. For Wadi Rum camps we found no reliable source on coverage, so ask your camp whether it has Wi-Fi or signal.
The Jordan Pass
The Jordan Pass covers entry to Petra and more than 40 other sites. It costs 70 JD with one day in Petra, 75 JD with two and 80 JD with three. Bought online before you arrive, it also waives the visa fee if you stay at least 2 whole nights. It has nothing to do with your phone, but it is bought online, so have data or Wi-Fi when you need to show it.
Buying a SIM at Queen Alia airport
Zain, Orange and Umniah have shops side by side in the arrivals hall at Queen Alia, and a SIM needs your passport for registration. An eSIM installs at home and works as soon as you land.
WhatsApp and FaceTime calls
This is the point to check before you rely on it. In 2016 Jordanian operators blocked WhatsApp and Viber calls on their networks, while Messenger, Telegram and Skype stayed reachable, according to Freedom House. Traveller reports from 2025 and 2026 disagree on whether the block still applies, and we found no official source settling it either way. Messages, photos and voice notes work.

Only a handful of measurements exist across the protected area, too few to say. We found no reliable source on coverage at the camps.
Do WhatsApp calls work in Jordan?
Not reliably known. Operators blocked them in 2016, and recent reports disagree. Messages work.
