Is there phone signal at Machu Picchu and on the Inca Trail?
Aguas Calientes has reliable 4G, the citadel is patchy, and the Inca Trail loses signal after the first morning. What to expect on each part, and on which network.
In Aguas Calientes, yes. At the citadel, patchy. On the Inca Trail, mostly no. The town below Machu Picchu has reliable 4G on Claro and Movistar. Inside the site the signal is inconsistent, stronger near the entrance. On the classic four-day Inca Trail it fades after the first morning and comes back when you reach Machu Picchu.

What to prepare
- Download your entry tickets and train tickets as files or screenshots. Do not rely on opening an email at the gate.
- Save offline maps of Cusco, Aguas Calientes and the trail.
- Tell family you will be out of reach for two or three days on the trail.
- Upload photos in Aguas Calientes or back in Cusco.
Some trekkers report paid, slow Wi-Fi near the last camp before Machu Picchu. Do not plan around it.
