Is there phone signal in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro?
On Airtel, network measurements show 4G around Seronera, at Naabi Hill gate and near Kogatende in the north. Ngorongoro has no Airtel measurements. What to expect on safari.
In parts of the Serengeti, yes. At Ngorongoro, we cannot confirm it on our network. Crowd-sourced measurements on nPerf's map show Airtel 4G around Seronera in the central Serengeti, at the Naabi Hill gate and near Kogatende in the north. For the Ngorongoro crater rim and floor there are no Airtel measurements at all, while Vodacom users have recorded 4G there.
Our Tanzania eSIM connects to Airtel. On safari, that means signal in the busier central and northern hubs, and lodge Wi-Fi for everything else.

An area without measurements is not proof there is no signal, only that nobody has tested Airtel there. Where Vodacom has been measured and Airtel has not, as on the Ngorongoro floor, we would not count on Airtel.
Lodges and camps
Most lodges have Wi-Fi in the lounge or main tent, often by satellite, meant for messages rather than video. Deep in the parks, away from lodges and main tracks, expect nothing on any network.

- Download offline maps of the parks in Arusha.
- Tell family which nights you will be at camps without signal.
- Upload photos from the lodge Wi-Fi or back in Arusha.
