Network measurements show Ooredoo 5G in the Tunis medina, Sidi Bou Said, Djerba, Tozeur, Douz and Tataouine, 4G at Ksar Ghilane, and thin data around Matmata and Chenini. Place by place.
In the cities, on Djerba and in the oasis towns, yes, often with 5G. In the dunes and the villages of the far south, much less. Crowd-sourced measurements on nPerf's map show Ooredoo Tunisia with 5G in the Tunis medina, Sidi Bou Said, Houmt Souk, Tozeur, Douz and Tataouine, 4G around the Ksar Ghilane oasis, and only a few measurements in Matmata and Chenini.

Buying a SIM at Tunis-Carthage airport
Ooredoo, Orange and Tunisie Telecom have counters in the arrivals hall, after passport control. Every Tunisian SIM is registered to a person, so you need your original passport: sellers report that ID cards and photocopies are not accepted. The counters close in the evening, so a flight landing after midnight may find them shut. An eSIM installs at home and works from the moment you land.
WhatsApp and FaceTime calls
Freedom House's 2025 report on Tunisia, covering June 2024 to May 2025, lists no blocked social media or websites. We found no official source saying internet calls are restricted in Tunisia. Where a call fails, the likelier cause is weak signal in the far south.
