Singtel, StarHub, M1 and SIMBA roaming: what it costs abroad and how to pay less

Roaming plans from Singtel, StarHub, M1 and SIMBA, read on their official sites and compared with a travel eSIM, for Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Europe and the US.

Before every trip the same question comes up: do I add my carrier's roaming plan, or get a travel eSIM? In Singapore the answer depends more on your carrier than anywhere else. Some plans are hard to beat in Malaysia and the region; others get expensive the further you go.

We read the prices on the official sites of Singtel, StarHub, M1 and SIMBA on 20 October 2026. Offers change often, so check again before you fly.

What to know first

  • Your plan may already include roaming. SIMBA plans come with roaming data for Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Thailand and more, and some Singtel plans include Roam Asia or Roam Worldwide. Check your plan before buying anything.
  • Singtel turns on a plan for you. AutoReadyRoam activates the cheapest ReadyRoam pack when you start roaming, and it cannot be removed. It protects you from pay-per-use rates, but it also means you pay as soon as you roam.
  • M1's $0.99 day pass is for Bespoke plans only, and the price is promotional for the first 12 months, then $2.99.

When an eSIM makes sense

Wigoo's prices are not written here: they come from the catalog when you read this, in your currency. The calculator puts them next to your carrier's plans.

  • On longer trips beyond Asia, where Singtel and StarHub plans cost more per GB: try Europe or the US in the calculator.
  • In SIMBA's Group B, C and D destinations, which are not in any allowance.
  • When your carrier's day pass runs every day of a two-week trip: a prepaid plan has a price you know before you leave.
  • Your Singapore number stays on, in the phone, for calls and OTPs, without data roaming on that line.

In Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand, Singtel's ReadyRoam Neighbours and M1's day pass are hard to beat. Check the numbers for your own trip above.

Quick answers

How much is Singtel roaming in Malaysia?

ReadyRoam Neighbours costs $5 for 1GB or $12 for 6GB, valid for 30 days in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. For a short trip, Unlimited Data Single Destination is $8 for 5 days in Malaysia.

Is StarHub DataTravel cheaper than Singtel?

In Asia Pacific, StarHub's 8GB for $16 over 30 days (with the promotion until 31 December 2026) and Singtel's 6GB for $18 are close. For the rest of the world, StarHub Global is $40 for 8GB and Singtel ReadyRoam Worldwide $40 for 6GB.

Does my Singapore number keep working with an eSIM?

Yes. Your Singapore line stays in the phone for calls, SMS and OTPs. Data goes through the eSIM, so you can leave data roaming off on your Singapore line.
